Express Dance Challenge Guidelines

DANCER REGISTRATION ENTRY FEES ( All prices are inclusive of GST) 

  • $40  Dancer Registration Fee (per dancer)

     

  • $30 Solos - per solo routine

     

  • $17.50 per dancer.  Duo/Trios/Quartets   
    (E.G. Duo $35  - Trio $52.50 - Quartet -$70)             

  •  

  • $11.00     Troupes (entry per dancer)

     

  • $11.00      Improvisation (per dancer / section)

     

  • $50    Champion Dancer per dancer

NOTE: To enter Champion Dancers you must enter a minimum of 3 other solos into the competition to be able to enter this section.

 

2025 Competitions the Competitor’s age will be calculated as at 1st January 2025. Troupes will be placed in age category of the eldest dancer. Troupes must consist of 5 or more dancers.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • There will be 3 sessions each day. (This is only approximate only Dayes and times may vary depending on entries).

     

- Session 1 - 8.00am

- Session 2 – 1.00pm

- Session 3 – 6.00pm

  • Spectator Tickets per day can be purchased at the door, Children under 4 Free

     

  • Sections and age groups may be combined at the discretion of Express Dance Challenge once entries have been received and processed.

     

  • Only Competitors, Teachers and Officials are permitted side stage.

     

  • Dressing room areas will be designated. Any excessive damages or mess left in dressing rooms will be invoiced a cleaning charge to teachers of schools involved.

     

  • Competitors must perform choreography of the school that appears on the entry form, either by a teacher of that school or a routine purchased with permission from the teacher.

     

  • A change/ stretch area will be available for participants.

     

  • Photography & Videography is strictly prohibited during the performances. Failure to comply with this rule may result in the competitor being disqualified so please leave it to the professionals.

     

  • A Professional Photographer & Videographer will be present at the competition

     

  • Doors will open 30 - 45 minutes prior to the first performance.

     

  • No smoking is allowed on the entirety of the premises. If you wish to light up ensure you are outside of the school gates or facility.

     

  • Express Dance Challenge and competition venue are not responsible for any lost property or injury to any persons attending the event.

     

  • Dancers perform at their own risk.

     

  • Published times are indicative only, please arrive 45mins – 1 hour prior to your section as we can run up to 1 hour ahead of schedule.

     

  • No photos or recording devices to be used in changerooms or auditorium or side stage. 

     

  • By entering the competition, you are giving permission for your images to be used on social media. If you do not give permission please contact our office. 

     

  • Express Dance Challenge is open to amateur performers only. Novice & Open sections available

  •    

  • Music and dance styles must be suitable for a family audience please, No profanity and must be age appropriate.

     

  • Payment can be made via electronic Transfer once you have received invoice.

     

  • PLEASE DO NOT PAY YOUR ENTRIES UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION THAT YOUR ENTRIES ARE SUCCESSFUL. YOU WILL BE ISSUED WITH AN INVOICE IF THEY ARE.

     

  • We are limited with entries due to time and days once entries reach capacity entries will be closed.

     

  • Once full capacity is reached. All other entries will be placed on a waiting list.

     

  • Entries must be sent through to  expressdancechallenge@outlook.com.au, and typed to ensure all spelling is correct and can be transferred into our documents to avoid errors.

     

  • Entries will only be accepted on the official forms (TYPED) Until our online booking system is ready.

     

  • Entry packs will be available on our website in the more tab 2-3 weeks prior to entries opening for that specific comp. Forms must be completed by a Teacher or Studio Owner, or For independent entries, studio name must be completed on forms.

     

  • All fees from one studio should be covered by one payment. All entries must be typed (not hand written) on the official forms only and emailed to expressdancechallenge@outlook.com.au

     

  •  

    No refunds/credits or transfers

    on entries regardless of any reasons once section drafts are released so please do not ask.

     

 

RESPECT & RESPONSIBILITY​

​

  • Any teachers, dancers, parents or spectators engaging in irresponsible or disrespectful behaviours may be asked to leave the event or risk their child / student being disqualified.

     

  • Please follow appropriate auditorium etiquette.

     

  • As the venue allows entry into audience area at all times, please be courteous of the performers on stage, exit and enter into the seating area between routines, not during a performance.

     

  • Please be respectful of one another, performers must feel safe. All teachers, dancers, parents and spectators must demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.

     

  • It is important to set standards for acceptable, age appropriate performances where children can feel safe to perform without the risk of exploitation.

     

  • In the interest of competitors safety, teachers must ensure competitors are capable of performing

     

any tricks, or skills within their routines.

  • Music must be age appropriate and edited to exclude profanity and inappropriate lyrics.

     

  • Please ensure that you encourage children to participate for their own interest and enjoyment.

     

  • Teach your students that trying your best is just as important as a victory.

     

  • Parents & Teachers, please lead by example applaud and support all dancers who compete on stage.

     

  • Do not criticise your child or any other child in front of others.

     

  • Show appreciation for all volunteers and staff at the competition.

     

  • Please keep children in eyes view at all times.

     

  • Respect the facility and leave all areas in a clean and tidy state.

     

  • The possession or consumption of illicit, non-prescribed drugs is not acceptable at any time. If a parent, volunteer, student or employee arrives to the Express Dance Challenge under the influence, or impaired by the effected of non-prescribed drugs they will be asked to leave.

     

  • The consumption of alcohol is prohibited at the Express Dance Challenge Competition.

     

  • Zero Tolerance for bullying  -Disciplinary action may take place if  bullying behaviour occurs, this can include but is not limited to

     

     

    • Verbal  OR Physical abuse or shouting

       

    • Excluding or isolating a person

       

    • Psychological harassment

       

    • Humiliating a person through sarcasm, insults, criticism (including through social media)

       

    • Belittling a person on their personal contribution or opinions.

       

     

     

COMPETITIOR INFORMATION

​

  • STOCKINGS MUST BE WORN DURING ALL PERFORMANCES AT EXPRESS DANCE CHALLENGE.

If no stockings are worn a 2 point deduction will be taken.

  • Competitors may only appear once in a section. UNLESS the sections are combined.

  • Competitors who do not appear when their number is called may perform at the end of the section. The awarding of marks and eligibility for a trophy will be at the adjudicator’s discretion.

  • No real flowers, fruit, foliage, vegetable, rosin, powder, flour, body oils, straw props or any breakable props are to be used or worn by competitors. No glitter is to be thrown on stage and glitter decorations on props should be sealed.

  • If a performer vomits or urinates on stage the performance will stop and the curtain will be closed. The teacher/parent is responsible for cleaning up and the competition will continue once the stage is dry. If a performer bleeds on stage the same will apply.

  • Competitors will be able to practice on the stage only when the curtain is closed and when production breaks are on.

  • All competitors must show good sportsmanship to their fellow competitors.

  • DANCERS COMPETE IN THEIR NOVICE / OPEN CLASSIFICATION AT AS AT THE TIME OF ENTRY IS SUBMITTED

  • NOVICE DANCER – Any dancer who has not won in a novice section for a specific genre then they must compete in the Novice section.

  • OPEN DANCER – Any dancer who has won in a Novice or Intermediate section in ANY COMP  in a specific genre must compete in the Open section of that genre.

  • Kindy Improvisation Sections   - 4 Years & Under and  6 Years & Under can wear an appropriate costume to suit the style in which they have entered.

  • All improvisation sections above 7 Years +  must wear black attire (no branded studio uniforms)

  • Dancers are to be polite , respectful and courteous to all fellow competitors

  • Treat others as you would want to be treated

  • Respect the changerooms, auditorium and premises at all times, please place all rubbish in bins. Please be mindful of hair and makeup products being used within the rooms.

  • Encourage all competitors.

  • Respect the adjudicators decisions as they award based on what they have seen that day.

  • Champion Dancer sections - you can compete a new routine or one you have already performed.
